(Fan Question) ‘Hi Shawn, I loved your interview with Billboard magazine and it sounds like you do a lot of hard work, I was wondering how and what do you do to relax?'

Shawn: Apart from sleeping on every flight and car journey possible, it’s really just spending time off of social media and FaceTiming family and stuff. But when I really don’t want to socialise I just zone out listening to music, meditate or write.

'Do you have a skin care routine? How is it so glowing?!'

Honestly this is a super corny answer but health and happiness is the best skin care routine possible! When I’m stressed or stop eating healthy and working out that’s when I get break outs.

'Does it feel weird knowing there are thousands of teenage girls out there with posters of you on their walls?'

Honestly I’d never thought about that until now *laughs* I guess it feels pretty weird but I’m cool with it! I had so many posters on my wall growing up so it’s an honour.

'When was the last time you flew commercial?'

I actually always fly commercial! It would be weird if I didn’t since I’m only a new artist, but it’s also terrible for the environment to fly privately so I probably never will unless I have to.

'What advice would you give to anyone wanting to start in the music industry?'

I would say just put yourself out there as much as possible, be that annoying person emailing your songs to every record label and performing every chance you get. You’re gonna get a lot of people telling you no, but if you put the work in I believe you’ll always get what you want one way or another.

Camila:Awh, thank you!
Host: Let’s talk about politics! If you somehow became President of the United States today, what is one major issue that you would focus on first?
Camila: Hmmm, that’s such a hard question! There are so many things I feel passionate about: free health care, the gender wage gap, race inequality… but I guess if I could only choose one, it would be immigration.
Host: Smart choice! There are a lot of things wrong with our country’s current immigration system. Why do you pick this issue?
Camila: It is something very personal to me. My parents immigrated here from Cuba. I was born in Havana. I’m here right now because of DACA. I believe that immigrants are the backbone of this country and should be happily accepted, not painfully rejected. The treatment of immigrants that I see in the news, or family members have described to me, is just heartbreaking. No one deserves to be locked up in a cage because of where they come from. We are all human, and all of us who live in America should have an equal opportunity at chasing the American dream!
Host: Very well said! I agree 100%! Now let’s talk about something else we can agree on, and I’m sure my viewers can too; “She Loves Control” is simply phenomenal!
Camila: I appreciate the love, I try my best (laughs)!
Host: The song sounds like an instant hit! It has such an infectious chorus. Do you create music in search of obtaining the latest smash hit?
Camila: Absolutely not! Sure having a hit song feels amazing, but it is not my objective. I create music because it’s my way of expressing myself. I feel the happiest when I’m spending late nights writing. “She Loves Control” can fail to make any dent in the charts, and I’m still going to be extremely proud of it!
Host: That is an amazing mindset. One that a lot of debuting artists don’t seem to have! Well, it’s been great having you on the show, Camila!

Host: and the song is a very pure 100% pop track and its very good! can you tell us about the message of the track?
Ava: thank you! you know this song is funny because I’m not at all calling women psycho actually. That’s not something to joke about. For me, psycho in the song means she’s being called a psycho, but she’s strong, and she’s being herself, and she’s being vulnerable. She’s showing all of her sides, and the guy still loves her. it's basically an anthem for women being themselves as authentically as possible in a relationship and it is definitely not at all making fun of women and them standing and holding their ground in a relationship so just wanted to clear that up before anyone tries to twist the meaning of the song haha

Shawn: Well I can’t currently confirm anything for my own album, but I will be featuring on a few upcoming songs! One is actually coming out very soon, y’all can guess who it’s with. I’m super excited about it actually.

Host: In a recent interview fellow pop star Hailee Steinfeld said that you ignored her Instagram DM and that she has a crush on you! Why are you ignoring her Shawn? *laughs*

Shawn: All I’m saying is I have my eyes on someone else currently! But I actually did reply to her eventually, she’s super sweet and we’re good friends.

Host: Is it hard finding time for girls amidst your busy schedule or has it been easier with this new found fame?

Shawn: *laughs* A bit of both actually, I haven’t had much time to meet people but my DMs have been flooded yeah.

Host: We know you often get trolled or criticised for supposedly acting ‘feminine’, how do you respond to that?

Shawn: Even though I know people mean that in an insulting way, I don’t see it as criticism. Like yeah I make pop music and the colour pink is on my artwork, who gives a fuck! I enjoy expressing myself.

Host: Bruh, you were a hip-hop fan, yeh? Who were your favourite artists?
Camila: Kanye, Kanye, and Kanye. I grew up on him. His artistry is everything. As an artist, he is definitely one of my biggest inspirations!

She slowly walks towards the center as she sings the first verse. Camila makes it to the center of the stage as the chorus starts. This song has been in the bank for a long time. I am so glad i finally got to release it and i think it was worth the wait. I been editing and tweaking it i think for few months prior the release and it took me a while to perfect it. I think its really important to be really delicate with the writing process. You gotta take it slow so no song can sound rushed or anything. Unless you are a writing genius!

On Downhill From Here Music Video

The Music Video is coming!! Hopefully sooner than what i expect. But i want it to be special and unique. We shot one scene and concept but are thinking of something bigger. We dont want something basic. We want a thing that is groundbreaking!! I performed in Fallon this week. And you get a glimpse of the music video there with the choreography.

On Debut Album

Its in the works, still. I hope i can say its finish soon tho. I know people always want more and more but i cannot release something that is not finished. It sadly does not work like that. I want to please all audiences!! I have a few songs ready tho, they sound a bit like Downhill from Here, so you guessed right the genre will be pop!

I had this song since forever! I am happy its out. I feel like it took me forever to release this one because i been working on it since forever. And the reason of that was because i went back and keep editing the track. The verses, the chorus and basically the production sometimes i would chime in and ask to change this and that. I didn't want to to rush it because this song in particular spoke to me and was like the one to my ears. I mean there are some other good tracks i had, but this always stood out to me! And i am so glad that people are liking it. The support really means a lot to me, and it gives me this boost of happiness!

On Future Projects

Well, a debut album is definitely in the works. I would love to get in the studio asap. Like after every interview i just want to record, write. Its just time to collect melodies lyrics anything that comes to my head ill write and go the next day and show it to the producer! Its really fun. But sometimes can take over your life and mindset completely! Something else is to release the music video for the single, we been working hard so i hope it pays off.

Today afternoon (July 1st), Camila Cabello stopped by the Radio Disney studio for an interview, as part of her promotional campaign for “She Loves Control”.

On her favourite Fifth Harmony memory:
“We had a lot and a lot of good memories, but I definitely remember us winning Best New Artist at the 2014 VMAs as one of our proudest moments. It was the first major award we ever won. I remember how weeks before we used to joke with each other on how we would react if we won, but that’s all it was to us. A joke. We never thought we actually stood a chance. So imagine our shock when they called our names. I think I might’ve, no, I definitely screamed! We celebrated so hard that night! To me, that is when I knew we made it as a group, and for that I will always remember it.”

On her favourite Disney movie:
“I’m a 90s baby, but my favourite Disney movie is actually pretty new. It’s Frozen. And not just because my little sister begs me to watch it with her every time I’m back home. Firstly, the soundtrack is just amazing. I mean, is there any soundtrack song better than ‘Do You Wanna Build A Snowman’? I think not. Secondly, I love how the main character is a total boss. Elsa is so independent, and doesn’t need anyone. I mean, she’s not even just a princess, but a whole Queen! While I love so many other classic Disney movies, they all kinda give the message that a girl needs a man to save the day. I remember growing up thinking that once I find my Prince Charming, all will be right. In Frozen, Elsa doesn’t need a man to save her story. She is the hero of her own story. I guess you can say… she loves control (laughs). I’m just happy little girls will be able to grow up and see Elsa as powerful feminist figure.”

Downhill from Here was a song i had for years now. I just went back and forth fixing it, tweaking everything. Maybe i will release a alternative version for my fans, you never know! I try my best to show the love back. The love to Downhill From Here is amazing and i am so lucky and blessed to have people enjoy this moment with. So i am really grateful, but yeah. This song has been with me since a long time and i am glad people are finally listening to it.

The music video is coming soon!!! I promise its not gonna take long. We are still shooting it, and we are hard at work so promise me its worth the wait. You actually get a glimpse of the video in my Fallon performance. There's like this huge chunk pulled out of it. We liked it and we reused it. Everyone does it so its fine! But yeah, in all honestly i cannot wait for it.

On the Future

Definitely would love to go on tour, but that doesn't come until after the album. So the album, then the tour. And after that maybe get a deal to release a clothing line. That would be so cool!! I cannot wait for everyone to send me selfies in T-shirts i designed!

She begins to slowly dance for the first chorus and moves around the stage as well. She then begins to dance more energetically for the chorus alongside her two dancers. For the second verse, she alone moves to the left side of the stage while the dancers stay in the middle but they both are engaging in the same choreography. For the chorus, they meet up at the left and do the same dance once more. Victoria is wearing a more simple outfit this time around: a green windbreaker jacket off the shoulder alongside some jeans and low heels. She allows the backing track to sing the first chorus/intro of the song while she asks the audience to clap and thank them for having her. She begins to sing for the first verse and moves around the stage slowly making sure to engage every side of the audience. She does not have structured choreography for the performance but rather, she just vibes and dances to the music as she sings the song effortlessly. After hitting the final note, the music begins to fade and she opens her eyes and smiles to the audience.

To match the school theme that the show has been doing for a long time, Victoria walks in with a schoolgirl outfit. Upon seeing Victoria in something so unusual for her, her and the cast all begin laughing and can’t contain themselves. The interview is much more unconventional where Victoria discusses things about herself alongside her career.
Victoria on adjusting to Korea!
It’s been a really weird experience I have to admit! The culture is very different from what I’m used to and while I haven’t had a LOT of time to go around the city. The time I have spent just walking around has been very enjoyable. People feel a lot more inclined to talk to you while you’re walking here whereas in the US everyone is just trying to get to their destination and not talk! While I’m not going to be here for long, it’s been a really fun experience and its interesting to see how people across the world live.

I was really surprised with how the song did here in South Korea. I feel like k-pop music has become really global and everyone seems to listen to it nowadays but I didn’t expect to see the inverse and it feels really nice to know people are listening to my song around the world. As for a video, the video has been shot but we even took some shoots here in South korea as well! I think we finally have all the footage we need so I expect to drop it next week!

Victoria on music she loves
I’ve never been the type of person who listens to one genre. I find that I do things obsessively and then I get sick of them so I think that transfers to my music taste as well. I’ll go through pure pop phases, then pure rap phases etc etc. So while I think Rnb is my favourite genre, it wouldn’t be that out of the ordinary for me to not listen to an Rnb record for weeks or even months depending on my taste in the current moment.
Victoria on if she will do features on her debut album
I personally plan on doing a couple features for my new album but I dont want to overdo it and have it feel too crowded. I’m actually going to release a song this month that has a feature that I think y’all will like a lot! I have lots of features recorded as I’m used to working with lots of artists and so sometimes I instinctually just hit someone up who I think fits the song but I don’t think I’m going to base my album around features. I wouldn’t be shocked if I don’t use 90% of the features that I’ve recorded!

Victoria Monet returns to the Kelly Clarkson show to perform her new single sticky alongside her dancers.
The camera pans from the introducer down to the stage where Victoria is standing with her 4 other dancers. They’re all wearing denim outfits. Victoria is wearing a long, almost floor length jean jacket while her dancers are wearing denim skirts and jackets. Victoria spends the majority of the performance moving around the stage slowly while performing the song while the dancers follow her but engage in choreography that victoria does not do. Then, for the final chorus of the song, Victoria puts the mic on the stand and allows the backing track to play while she fully engages with her dancers in the choreography. She’s smiling along with her dancers while she dances and she breaks off from the main group to do the same dance at the very front of the stage on her own. The crowd gives the performance a standing ovation while the announcer says “Sticky, out now on all platforms including Flux and iTunes!”

Victoria on Sticky Music Video
The concept actually came to me while we were shooting the Sticky single cover! I was posing with a crystal ball and so I thought it would be a cute idea to do something centered around being a psychic for the video. Then and there, I decided that we were gonna be turning this photoshoot into a music video shoot. So, we took some videos of myself with the crystal ball with various poses so that we could have some footage for the music video. In the end, we did actually end up using a small bit from that shoot. I honestly just did it as a joke but its crazy how good the videos turned out from that shoot.
Victoria on how she entered the music industry
I started the industry as a writer. The first few songs I wrote were intended for me but after recording them multiple times something just felt so off. It really put me off and lowered my confidence in my singing abilities and so I backed away from the singing scene and focused entirely on writing songs. I’ve written lots of hits and for a while, I felt content. I felt that was all I needed but then, after a while, I began to grow tired of JUST writing songs so I gave singing another shot and I ended up really liking the first song I recorded. After that, I started writing songs on the side that I kept for myself while still fulfilling songwriting duties I had to other artists. After I was done though, I focused 100% of my energy to my OWN music career!

The album is currently in the works and everytime I feel as though I found the tracklist I love. Another song hits me for a whirlwind and I have to add it. This process keeps repeating and I find myself, in one session of listening to songs, finishing with an entirely different tracklist then what I started with. So, progress has been hard because while I have a surplus of songs, I feel like I’m struggling with what kind of sound I want to convey on my album. I sound like I’m rambling and that it’s a disaster but its not as bad as I’m making it out to be. I think after letting all the song sink in I’ll be able to create a tracklist I love!

Over the years of interacting with artists, I can definitely say I’ve seen such a large range of treatment from labels. I’ve seen labels give artists absolutely NO creative freedom and so they’re stuck releasing albums they don’t love just to fulfill their contracts. Luckily, my label has been really nice with the creative direction of my album. They’re not pushing me in any direction and they’ll help me promote any song that I see fit to promote! I’m really lucky in that sense because I would hate to be stuck in that situation!

Victoria on making friends in the industry
The best advice I can give is to stay away from making friends who are in the same competitive industry as you! So many times I observe people who were “friends” just using eachother for promotion and as stepping stones. One time I was helping write two songs for two different artists who were supposedly friends to the outside world and I overheard BOTH of them shit talking to each other. It felt so toxic which is why I find that most of my friends aren’t musicians or people within the industry. Not to say that everyone is like that, but that’s what I’ve learned.
Victoria on future plans
To be completely honest, I don’t have many future plans after my debut album. However, I do know that I don’t want to push out studio albums back to back every year but instead, experience life as it comes and write from those experiences. I think I’ll always be creating music but I think that in between eras I find myself releasing lots of droplets and songs that I wouldn’t usually classify as my own style so that I can still have fun while being a recording artist. That was one of my biggest fears about becoming my own artist, which is that I won’t have the same creative freedom and that I will be put into a box and forced to please those who enjoyed my first album and expect my subsequent albums to be the same!

I draw inspiration from so many people. I grew up around music from Justin Timberlake, Madonna, George Michael. But in my adulthood I’ve been hugely inspired by Lorde, I think Melodrama is one of the best albums of all time! Greenlight massively influenced ‘MY MY MY!’, I wanted to create a huge anthemic pop song like that too.

Growing up I was always surrounded by music, I don’t have a particularly musically talented family but we all just love music. The radio was always on, I’m quite grateful to my parents for that since it exposed me to so much music. Without having that I think it’s hard to discover your specific taste and what you enjoy, and if I didn’t know that I’d be a terrible musician!

I don’t have a lot of time for that right now, but of course I’d love to settle down eventually. Kids? I’m not sure about that yet! I have younger siblings so I guess they’re like my kids for now *laughs*

I think that the state the world is in right now is terrible, I can only hope that my generation and every generation below me have the education and passion to make change. I truly think young people can change the world!

Ava: well this may sound cliche but it truly feels like a dream. like when we made the song in the studio we knew this was the one but like, its happening so fast you know? so yeah I just feel very lucky!. and you know the song is about a girl who is misunderstood in a relationship. She thinks she’s going out of her mind and psycho. But in reality, she’s just a strong, independent female. In the end, the guy loves all of her sides both sweet & the psycho (as he likes to call it).

FLORENCE ON GOING NUMBER ONE IN THE UK
It kind of came as a shock, for both myself and my record label. I did not think that I would be making it to number one in my country. Not as a debut artist on my debut single. I was so surprised that the response to my song came back so positive. Not only was the response great in the United Kingdom, the response in the United States was amazing too. And just recently actually, I got the okay to be able to come to the United States to perform the song. I couldn’t believe that my record label was like “We want you to go promote your song in the US”. I packed up fast and we just left!

FLORENCE AND HER BAND
I love the band that follows me everywhere I go. I do not give them much recognition, but they definitely know that I appreciate everything that they do. They mean the world to me and I love that when I perform anywhere, I get to play with live music and not a backtrack or anything like that. It is 100% live and all me and my band. That is so amazing to me. I really should give them a shout out during live performances.

Host: people love you and I think part of the appeal is the hair you call it the Max-Cut right? tell us more about it what are the origins of it
Ava: well yeah it is called the Max-Cut, I say this story literally every time and it's very embarrassing oh my god, so I had some cookies baking while I was in the middle of cutting my hair and I just had cut one side of my hair off and I smell something burning and it was the cookies! so I quickly stopped what I was doing and went straight to the kitchen to see the cookies, sadly they were burnt and dead, but then I looked at myself in the mirror and the rest was history! so yeah guess that's the origins of the Max-Cut!
