Host: Here to perform her brand new debut single, please welcome Camila Cabello!

As the opening instrumental to “She Loves Control” plays, bright red lights shine on stage. Seconds before it is time to start singing, Camila walks on stage. She is wearing a mesh black top along with ripped black pants. She begins to sing the first verse of the as she slowly walks closer to the front of the stage. As the chorus hits, two male dancers walk onto the stage from opposite ends. All three of them walk to the left of the stage as Camila sings the second verse. Once they arrive at the far left, Camila joins them in a light dance routine. Stepping out of the camera frame, the dancers leave Camila alone to sing the bridge. The camera zooms in on her face as she sings it dramatically. With the final chorus hitting, Camila runs back to the center stage, where the two male dancers are now doing full choreography, and joins them in a routine as the backing track plays. Camila stops dancing to harmonize the final notes of the song, then the song comes to an end and the audience applauds.

Host: Welcome back to Venga La Alegría. Now joining us again, this time for an interview, give it up for Camila Cabello!

Host: Welcome to our show Camila!
Camila: Thank you so much for having me! So happy to be not only here at your show, but in Mexico!
Host: Us Mexicans are happy to have you! Now, I understand that you actually have some Mexican blood running in you!
Camila: (laughs) Yes, I do! While I was born in Cuba, my dad and his entire family are Mexican, and before moving to the United States, I spent my childhood living between Mexico City and Havana!
Host: So being back here, is basically like coming back home?
Camila: In a way, yes! But let me just say, the people here are way nicer than the people in Miami! (laughs)
Host: Glad to hear! Now, let’s talk about your music! First off, congratulations on going solo. I’m sure that took a lot of guts.
Camila: It did. I had gotten so used to having a safety net of four other girls to support me, or share my experiences with, but now it’s just me. I think I chose the perfect time to do it though. I mean, I turned 23 years old this year, so I would say I am definitely grown enough to be independent now. (laughs)
Host: You sure are, “She Loves Control” really demonstrates your level of independence. It’s like an anthem of sorts for it.
Camila: That was the goal! To make a song that can inspire people to take charge, be the change that they want to see.
Host: How have you taken control of your life? Perhaps even musically?
Camila: Well for music, I made sure that I had creative control in writing my music. While I was in a group, I wasn’t allowed to contribute much to the songwriting process. All of us girls’ ideas were shot down, and the writing was left to “professionals”. So when I signed my record deal as a solo artist, I made it explicitly clear that I want, actually need to be able to express myself through my music, and writing it personally was the only way to do so.
Host: That’s a bold claim for an artist trying to get signed to make. How did they react?
Camila: They were surprisingly enthusiastic about my passion. They told me that my drive to create music personally is exactly what they are looking for in an artist. I was so happy. Now with the music I’ve made, and am currently making, I am heavily involved. I get to choose which writers I want to work with, what producers, and what sound I want to do. My label executives will say their advice and recommendation but ultimately respect my artistic freedom.
Host: Wait, you are speaking as if you already have an entire album recorded… do you?
Camila: (laughs and blushes)
Host: Can we expect it this year?
Camila: All I can say is, the studio has become my home in the past few months and still is. If I’m not promoting, I’m in the studio. As for a potential debut album release date… (runs her finger across her mouth as if it’s a zipper)
